Inner-City Home says it raised more than $70,000 in its Fast to Feed fundraiser.

From 11 a.m. on Oct. 23 until 11 a.m. on Oct. 24, participants were asked to fast and collect pledges for the organization’s food bank as part of the Fast to Feed fundraiser.

Twenty-four hours; imagine your cupboard is bare,” Inner City executive director Jennifer Grooms said in an interview in early October.

As of late October, the fundraiser had brought in $72,817, and donations were still coming in. That includes $25,000 from the Lougheed Foundation.

Hundreds of people participated in this important initiative to help provide emergency food support in Greater Sudbury. Inner-City Home provides helping hands to the lonely and less fortunate in our community.

The Emergency Food Bank provides assistance to approximately 900 households every month. 2500 children every year rely on the food bank.

“We targeted $40,000 as our goal for 2020,” said board president Joe Drago. “The unofficial total has all of us on the board so pleased and excited with the way our community comes through in times of need. On behalf of the Inner-City Home Board and families who will benefit, we are so grateful for the generous support.”

Inner-City Home relies on community support to provide these programs and food support services. With no government funding, the agency has to raise $200,000 every year to continue the work they do.

The home also provides programs such as managing anger and managing stress and building self esteem. For more information about its programs, phone 705-675-7550.
