Event a precursor to NEO Kids month in Greater Sudbury

November is NEO Kids month in Greater Sudbury.

Mick Weaver, chair, NEO Kids Foundation board, said the month will focus on the work that NEO Kids does here in Sudbury and in Northeastern Ontario, as well as on fundraising to supply equipment and programs for the current NEO Kids and for the future outpatient centre.

Kicking off the month-long awareness campaign was the Superheroes for Little Heroes event at Health Sciences North on Oct. 30. Police officers with the tactical unit donned superhero costumes and rappelled down the side of the hospital.

“With Halloween here, it was an opportunity to entertain and brighten the day for the kids in the hospital, and who aren't able to go trick or treating on Tuesday,” Weaver said. “It provides a little bit of fun during a time that isn't so fun for them. That's what NEO Kids can be to some people. And police officers want to be heroes to these kids, so that's why it's a great partnership.”
