Photos: The adults who fight fires party with the kids fighting cancer

Plus: 2019 Sudbury Firefighters Calendar (which benefits the Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer) goes on sale in a month!

Photoshoots for the 2019 Firefighters Calendar are currently underway, so in a month's time you'll get the chance to see some of Sudbury's finest firefighters baring some skin for charity.

Proceeds from this year's calendar will benefit Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer (NOFCC).

In the meantime, on July 25, members of the Sudbury Professional Firefighters Association took some time to meet some families from NOFCC during a barbecue meet and greet at the fire station downtown.

"We are super thrilled about the campaign," NOFCC executive director Dayna Caruso said. "We are very honoured to be a part of this."

NOFCC provides programs and services to families who have children with cancer. The program covers things like parking and accommodations for treatments, funeral costs and palliative care support.

Sarah Kennedy said NOFCC has been an invaluable service for her family. Her five-year-old son, Malleck, was diagnosed with leukemia in 2017 and is still in active treatment.

"Anybody that wants to help (NOFCC) is essentially helping families like mine," Kennedy said. "It means so much."

This year's calendars will feature some furry additions, too. Animals that are up for adoption will be posing alongside some of Sudbury's finest firefighting bodies to bring awareness to the Greater Sudbury Animal Shelter.

The 2019 Sudbury Firefighters Calendar will be available for purchase in September for $20 with proceeds going towards the Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer.
