Greater Sudbury Police Services has issued an alert to the public to expect delays in the downtown area.

“On Saturday Jan. 23 2010, a rally organized by the Sudbury Chapter of Canadians Against Proroguing Parliament (CAPP) was to be held in Hnatyshyn Park (Notre-Dame Ave. at Elm St.) Due to an increased estimation of people expected to attend this event, the venue has been changed to the centre concourse of the Tom Davies Square; it is scheduled for 1 p.m.,” a police release said.

“With an increase in vehicular and pedestrian traffic, the public should expect delays in the downtown area-anyone not taking part in the function should consider avoiding the area of Minto, Larch and Brady Streets. Drivers are asked to be vigilant and safety-minded,” continued the release.Police advised that some streets may have to be closed depending on the amount of people in attendance.“Parking may also be limited therefore carpooling and public transportation would be strongly recommended,” said police.
