Updated 2:30 p.m:

Service has been restored to all 1300 customers affected by this morning’s power outage.

The cause was determined to be a tree branch, which blew a transformer switch and prevented the system from resetting.

Sudbury Hydro said they were able to locate the interruption thanks to tips from residents in the area.

With thunderstorms in the forecast, Sudbury Hydro shared this information on what to do before, during and after an outage.

Original Story:

Sudbury Hydro reports that there are still 900 customers within the area of Bancroft Drive and the downtown core without power, following an outage that occurred around 9:40 a.m. this morning.

So far, service has been returned to 400 customers along Howey Drive, but there is no estimate as to when service will be restored to the remaining areas.

Sudbury Hydro has asked residents in the area of Bancroft Drive to contact them if they heard a loud bang or saw a flash, as they are having difficulty locating the source of the outage.

Until the source of the outage can be determined, crews will be attempting to reroute power to the area through an alternative source, which may result is short flickers of power for those in the area.
