Province ponies up for Triple P

A positive parenting program (Triple P) in Sudbury received a financial boost Oct. 3 after the province cut a $30,000 cheque for the Children's Community Network.

The funds are provided through the Healthy Communities Fund, said Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci, and will help implement a bilingual and culturally relevant public education campaign in Sudbury Manitoulin’s Francophone, English and Aboriginal communities.

“Parents have the important role of raising the next generation,” said Bartolucci. “These types of programs help build positive relationships between parents and children which, in turn, help keep our community growing stronger and healthier.”

“Parents' response to and satisfaction with the local Triple P program is very encouraging,” said Jane Bauer, executive director of Children’s Community Network. “The demand for the program across our districts is increasing steadily, and with this grant we will be able to move forward on the universal component of the program which involves media promotion and normalizing education and support for parenting.”

Supporting families in raising well-adjusted children should be a community priority, she said, “and we should celebrate our community’s commitment to providing the Triple P program across the districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin.”
