Public Health Ontario has reported 1,300 new cases of COVID-19 today - over 200 more than the previous day. The majority are in the Greater Toronto Area: 433 in Toronto, 253 in Peel and 116 in York Region.
Today's report also includes 19 new deaths.
The Feb. 12 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 1,434 new recoveries
- 786 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, up from 763 reported yesterday.
- There are 287 COVID patients in intensive care units (down from 295) and 203 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 204 yesterday).
- The province reported 58,760 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 2.2 per cent positivity rate.
- Another 32,143 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, more than 10.2 million tests have been completed.
Variant of concern
- The province has reported 297 lab-confirmed cases of the UK variant strain of COVID-19 (B.1.1.7).
- The province has reported three cases of B.1.351 (also known as the South African variant).
- The province is also reporting one case of P.1 (also known as the Brazilian variant)
- According to Public Health Ontario, there are delays between specimen collection and the testing required to confirm a variant of concern. As such, the reports can change and can differ from past case counts publicly reported.
Vaccine update for Feb. 12:
- As of 8 p.m. on Feb. 12, the province reported 456,947 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
- In total, 151,282 people have been fully vaccinated, having received two doses of vaccine, which are to be given a few weeks apart.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 284,887 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 265,893 recoveries and 6,651 deaths, of which 3,780 were individuals living in long-term care homes.
Localluy, Public Health Sudbury and Districts reported Friday that there are three new cases of COVID-19 in the area.
Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD) said there are now 35 cases being actively monitored. Since the pandemic was declared almost a year ago, there have been 559 total COVID-19 cases reported to the Sudbury health unit, with 524 of those cases being resolved locally.
The daily update also reported one new death, which is the death originally reported late Thursday in connection with the outbreak at Health Sciences North.
With respect to where the cases occurred,the PHSD daily update page reported that three cases were found to have occurred within the Greater Sudbury Area.
In terms of possible causes of the new cases, PHSD reported three new cases linked to outbreak. No other case causes were mentioned.
At Sudbury's Health Sciences North hospital, there are seven patients confirmed with COVID-19 for today February 12, 2021. According to the HSN daily update web page, two of those patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). There are eight additional admitted patients currently being investigated for COVID-19 at this time.
