The Children's Aid Society of the Districts of Sudbury & Manitoulin is encouraging Sudburians to wear purple on Oct. 24 to raise awareness of child abuse.
October is Child Abuse Prevention Month in Ontario and Children's Aid Societies around the province are pushing to create awareness by inviting people to talk about the issue of child abuse.
Every October, Ontario Association of Children's Aid Societies (OACAS) and Children’s Aid Societies raise awareness about how to identify and help prevent child abuse. One of the campaign’s key goals is to educate communities and key partners about how calling a Children’s Aid Society is one of the most effective ways to prevent child abuse.
"By creating awareness and talking about it, community members play a key role in helping families cope in difficult situations," said a news release from Children's Aid Society of the Districts of Sudbury & Manitoulin.
Community members can also offer practical assistance to families in need of support, care for children and youth when their parents are not able, look out for one another and their children, and report concerns of child and youth maltreatment or neglect.
"Child and youth safety and wellbeing is everyone’s responsibility," said the news release. "Please show your support for our children and dress purple on Oct. 24."
