Rainbow Concrete has issued a statement about the accident that killed a dump truck driver on company property Feb. 15.

“We at Rainbow Concrete regretfully confirm that a fatal injury did occur at a Rainbow site,” said the press release, issued by the company in the afternoon of Feb. 17.

“We, of course, are fully co-operating with the authorities in the investigation of the incident, including engaging in our own investigation in accordance with our health and safety policy to understand what has occurred.

“We at Rainbow are deeply distraught at the loss of one of our employees to this tragedy – our hearts and minds are with his family during this difficult time.”

The incident is also currently under investigation by the Ministry of Labour.

Ministry spokesperson Janet Deline said the ministry was notified of the death at around 10 a.m. Feb. 15.

“We have it that a dump truck driver suffered fatal injuries,” she said.

When asked what happened, Deline would not elaborate further, saying that's all part of the investigation.

No details have been released about the victim, other than his gender and that he was an employee of Rainbow. Nor have any details been released officially on the nature of the incident that led to his death.

Two ministry inspectors and one engineer have been assigned to the investigation.
