In the wake of the Rainbow District School Board's announcement last month that it may close Larchwood Public School, among several other schools, parents of kids at that school are invited to a Sept. 26 meeting.
Organizers say the meeting, which starts at 5:30 p.m. at the school, is being held by parents to “discuss our options.”
“Current discussions include having parents pledge to transfer to the Catholic Board if the school is closed, and Chelmsford H.S. is looking at the same,” a press release said.
“We are also looking to showcase board spending and dysfunction in the board room. It will be a fight to the finish, and would love it if you could join us.”
The board approved accommodation reviews for six of its eight planning areas Aug. 30.
Proposed changes, which would be implemented by 2019 at the latest, include the closure and consolidation of several schools — both elementary and secondary — building new ones and moving Grade 7 and 8 students to high schools.
Input will be gathered from stakeholders this fall and decisions made just four months from now, in January 2017.
