Sudbury NDP MP Glenn Thibeault is leaving the federal NDP to run for the Ontario Liberal party in Sudbury, according to a report today in the Toronto Star.

Thibeault is expected to make a formal announcement this morning. He has been removed from a list of federal NDP caucus members on the party's website, and his website as NDP MP -- glennthibeault.ndp.ca -- is no longer working.

The news comes a day after Andrew Olivier, who was seeking nomination for the Liberal party in Sudbury, announced he was asked to withdraw from the race and publicly support another candidate who would be appointed to run. In a news conference Monday, Olivier alleged he was offered a job or an appointment by the Liberals in exchange for quietly withdrawing from the race.

According to the Toronto Star article, Premier Kathleen Wynne convinced the two-term New Democrat to cross the floor to run for the seat left vacant by NDP MPP Joe Cimino, who resigned in November.
