Residents in the Sudbury water service area, including the former City of Sudbury, New Sudbury, West Garson, Coniston, Wahnapitae and Markstay, are urged to conserve water by reducing non-essential uses on Tuesday, Nov. 23.

There will be a temporary shutdown of the David Street Water Treatment Plant from 8 am to 6 pm Tuesday.

The shutdown is necessary while crews decommission parts of the old water treatment plant that were being used as backup during construction of the new David Street facility.

Further shutdowns will be necessary to complete the decommissioning process.

During this time, residents who are normally served by the David Street plant will receive water service from the Wanapitei Water Treatment Plant and from the Ellis Reservoir.

Residents in the Sudbury water service area may notice water discolouration and/or pressure fluctuations as a result of the temporary shutdown.

Prolonged water discolouration should be reported to the City of Greater Sudbury's operations division by calling 560-2022.

Meanwhile, residents of Levack are being urged to conserve water by reducing all non-essential uses on Tuesday between 7:45 am and 4 pm. That's because the main trunk line is being shut down for maintenance work by Inco Ltd.

Water will be supplied to Levack residents by reservoir during this time. Residents may experience reduced water pressure and are asked to limit consumption whenever possible.
