reThink Green, Greater Sudbury’s Environmental Network and home of Green Economy North, has received two national awards from Green Communities Canada.

The awards for Organizational Resilience and Innovation were presented to reThink Green at the annual meeting of Green Communities Canada (GCC) June 23.
Executive director Rebecca Danard said she is excited by the news.

“We are very happy to have our efforts recognized, particularly our work to launch a new business focused program in Northern Ontario,” said Danard, in a press release.

The Innovation award celebrates the launch of Green Economy North, a program designed to support businesses to find economic benefits of environmental sustainability. reThink Green shares the award with two other Ontario organizations building similar programs in York Region and Durham Region.

In mid-2015, reThink Green reached an important milestone – its 10th anniversary. The Organizational Resilience award is given to an environmental organization which has continued to succeed despite challenges, thanks to a host of qualities including flexibility and adaptation.

“These awards show that Sudbury has an important place in Canada’s environmental efforts, and that reThink Green is well-positioned to be a leader as our economy makes a shift to sustainability,” said Danard.

Green Communities Canada is a national association of community organizations working with homeowners, businesses, governments and communities to reduce our impact on the environment.
