The Cora Bailey Award is a Provincial Award given by the Sudbury branch of the Retired Women Teachers of Ontario. It's presented to a branch member who has contributed outstanding service to her Branch.

McInnes devoted 34.5 years to the teaching profession, and retired in 1988.

She spent her career in Ottawa, Toronto and Lively, before joining the Sudbury Separate School Board as a kindergarten teacher, a music teacher and later on in her career as a music consultant.

During that time, she also earned a BA from Laurentian University and a Master of Education from Ottawa University.

McInnes is involved in the community, serving on the executives of two retired teachers' groups, including the Retired Women Teachers of Ontario.

As music is her passion, she has been involved with various churches as a director of choirs, as a singer and as a member on liturgical and parish committees.

For the past 20 years, McInnes has been one of the directors of the Northern Echoes Senior Choir, which performs concerts at various venues.

“She has touched the lives of many with her passion for life, her insight and her calm efficiency,” a press release said.
