Sudbury will be joining more than 50 communities across Canada in October when the annual local version of Run For The Cure is held.

The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) and CIBC invite residents of The City of Greater Sudbury to lace up their shoes and come together to make a real difference for those impacted by breast cancer at the 32nd annual Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure on Sunday, October 1, 2023.

In Sudbury, the event is scheduled to take place at Cambrian College, at 1400 BarryDowne Road, with registration taking place at 8 a.m.

Opening ceremonies are at 9 a.m. The five-kilometre run event starts at 9:40 a.m. and the one-kilometre event starts at 9:50 a.m.

Taking place in 53 communities across the country, including the City of Greater Sudbury, the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure is Canada’s largest single-day, volunteer-led initiative in support of the breast cancer cause.

The event raises funds for world-leading research and vitally important support programs to help people facing breast cancer live longer, fuller lives, said a news release.

“The Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure is an inspiring day that brings people, families and communities across Canada together to make a difference for people living with or beyond breast cancer,” said Tanya Henry, vice president of signature programs, Canadian Cancer Society.

“Thanks to our supporters and partners in communities like the City of Greater Sudbury, important progress is being made in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of breast cancer," she said.

"Proceeds raised at last year’s Run are now supporting researchers to develop an immunotherapy vaccine to treat triple negative breast cancer, one of the most difficult to treat types of breast cancer, and many other promising CCS-funded research projects.”
