Grade 11 École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur student Quade Howald is among 30 students in Canada who received the 2015 CIBC Youthvision Scholarship.
This scholarship program supports high-potential Grade 10 students that might not otherwise have the financial means to pursue a higher education.
This year’s scholarship winners were honoured at a special two-day forum in July. Each of the 30 recipients will receive up to $38,000 in direct funding, mentorship and job experience.
Howald has logged in more than 1,600 volunteer hours in the community, starting when he was 10 years old.
In addition to helping teach judo, gymnastics and swimming, Howald is a summer camp councillor, sings opera, builds potato cannons and soap box racing vehicles and volunteers during music festivals.
The following organizations have benefitted from his volunteer efforts: Sudbury Infant Food Bank, Human League Association and the Sudbury YMCA.
He also continues to serve as an elected member of the École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur student parliament.
