Not only is it time to save the date for Seedy Sudbury 2023 seed swap, but it is also the time to save your seeds, the organizing committee advises.

“We want to remind people to save their seeds while there’s still lots to harvest locally,” said Rachelle Rocha, one of the event’s organizers, in a news release. “We often get people saying they wish they’d thought of it earlier.”

If you would like to participate, but aren’t sure how to go about saving seeds, Rocha suggests a book published by Seeds of Diversity Canada called “How to Save Your Own Seeds”. The guide can be purchased for $15 from the Seeds of Diversity website or is available locally at Seasons Pharmacy & Culinaria.

Rocha said the Seeds of Diversity website “is an excellent resource for information about seed saving.” She also suggests Seedy Sudbury’s YouTube channel for helpful videos.

The Seedy Sudbury event sees gardeners bring seeds to exchange with other greenthumbs. The event will also feature several speakers.

The location is also yet to be determined, but the date is set for Feb. 25, 2023. While the event will be offered in-person event for the first time since 2020, it will also be streamed online for those who can’t make it in person.

“It will be much more like it was in the past, but some people have let us know they appreciate the online option, so we’ll keep it as well,” Rocha said.
