The Downtown Sudbury Business Improvement Area (BIA) said there have been recent incidents involving unauthorized individuals posing as organizers of the Downtown Sudbury Holiday Market on social media platforms.

These incidents have prompted the BIA to take proactive measures to ensure the safety and authenticity of all participants, said a press release.

To safeguard the interests of vendors, the Downtown Sudbury BIA will be issuing confirmation letters to all registered participants of the official Downtown Sudbury Holiday Market.

The organization said that all official communications, including announcements and updates related to the Holiday Market, will be disseminated solely through the official Downtown Sudbury BIA page on social media platforms and the Downtown Sudbury website event page.

“Potential participants are reminded that the ONLY authorized method for registering for the Downtown Sudbury Holiday Market is by completing the official registration form available in their official social media event descriptions, or via DSBIA Holiday Market Official Registration Form,” said the press release.

“Any other method of registration is unauthorized and potentially risky.”

Downtown Sudbury said it will never ask people for money via social media direct message. It advises people to immediately report any suspicious activity to the relevant social media platform.

The organization also reminds people to verify the authenticity of posts and accounts, exercise caution if posts contain spelling errors, poor grammar or inconsistent information and to check the legitimacy of website links.

“The Downtown Sudbury BIA is committed to ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience for all participants in the Holiday Market,” said the press release.

“By adhering to these guidelines and utilizing the official registration form, vendors and attendees can confidently engage in this festive event.”
