Ontario One Call to hire 30 new employees in Sudbury: 

Ontario One Call is building a location on The Kingsway and plans to hire 30 people for full-time work. The company is a non-profit established in 1996 as the main centre for companies and others to call to ensure the area where they're about to excavate doesn't have buried cables or other underground infrastructure. NCF launches second annual 'Trek for Cancer':

The Northern Cancer Foundation put their first snowshoe forward at Kivi Park on Jan. 19 to announce the launch of their second annual Trek for Cancer snowshoe fun run. This year's trek will feature snowshoeing on the trails while enjoying the scenery, skating, sliding, face painting, hot chocolate and more. The trek will take place on Sunday, March 5. ICYMI: Laurentian celebrates opening of McEwen School of Architecture:

Laurentian University celebrated the official opening of the final capital phase of the McEwen School of Architecture on Jan. 19, completing a $45 million 72,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility located in Sudbury’s downtown core. Wolves host Spirit in Friday night OHL action:

Red-hot Dmitry Sokolov and the Sudbury Wolves will host the Saginaw Spirit for the one and only time this season Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Sudbury Arena. Sokolov currently leads the Wolves with 46 points in 39 games including 33 goals, good for third among league leaders. The Spirit sit fifth in the OHL's West Division. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.

Vagnini the new chair of police services board:

Ward 2 Coun. Michael Vagnini has been elected chair of the Greater Sudbury Police Services Board.  Meeting on Wednesday, Vagnini was the unanimous choice, as was the new vice-chair, Ward 3 Coun. Gerry Montpellier. Sudbury.com will have more on this story for you later today.

"Whip" over to ARC for a climbing competition Friday evening:

Sudbury’s premiere climbing facility, ARC Climbing Yoga Fitness, is set to host its second annual lead climbing competition, “ARCtic Whipperfest”, on Friday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. This competition will focus on lead climbing, a form of rock-climbing where the climber must clip into draws as they ascend up the wall. The competition runs from 7 p.m - 10 p.m. with an entry fee of $15.
