Man charged for robbing woman at downtown bank:

A 21-year-old man has been charged with robbery after he stole $700 from a 61-year-old woman on April 17. At around 5 p.m. on April 17, Greater Sudbury Police officers responded to an incident at Bank of Montreal on Durham Street. The suspect allegedly pushed the victim, causing minor injuries. The suspect then fled on foot and was chased by bank security, who reported the incident to the police. Police located the suspect at a downtown restaurant where he was subsequently arrested. The victim’s stolen money was located on the suspect and recovered. 

Who wants to be a millionaire? $1 million ticket sold in Sudbury:

The winning ticket for the LOTTO 6/49 Guaranteed $1 Million Prize Draw was sold in the Sudbury area. The draw took place on Saturday, April 22. Salmonella risk prompts potato chip recall:

Miss Vickie's Canada is recalling Miss Vickie's brand Jalapeño Kettle Cooked Potato Chips from the marketplace due to possible Salmonella contamination.  Consumers should not eat chips from the 40, 66, or 220 g bag as they are all part of the recall. If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, call your doctor. 

Hundreds of Sudburians run for mental health:

Some cool and damp conditions couldn't break the spirit of nearly 500 runners who made their way to Rotary Park on April 23 for the first annual Unbreakable Spring Open. The run was spearheaded by Lo-Ellen Park student Josh Tillson and his friend Lauren-Ashleigh Beaudry of Lockerby Composite School. The goal for the two teens was to raise enough money through the event to bring Cameron Helps to schools in the Sudbury area. Cameron Helps is a youth suicide prevention group that helps kids who may be suffering in silence with depression or other mental health issues. Check out photos from the run here.

Wolves' first round pick commits to The Pack:

The Sudbury Wolves organization has announced that their first round selection in the 2017 OHL Priority Draft, Blake Murray has committed to the hockey club and the OHL. Over the weekend, at their annual rookie orientation camp, together with his parents and sister, the Wolves first rounder was excited to join the pack. Blake will finish the grade 10 school year at home before a busy summer of training as he prepares for his first OHL training camp which is set to open Labour Day Weekend. Sudburians stand up for science:

More than 50 Sudburians marched from Health Sciences North to Memorial Park on April 22 in the city's first ever March for Science. Thousands of scientists worldwide, including those in Canada, took to the streets today to rail against what they say are mounting attacks against science. The March for Science, which coincides with Earth Day, took place in more than 500 cities around the world — with about 18 scheduled in cities across Canada. Find the full story and photos here.
