Madison Kvaltin already has regional and national pageant titles to her name, and this fall, she'll take on the world.
This past spring, Kvaltin, a recent Lockerby Composite school graduate, was named Miss North Ontario Regional Canada.
The 18-year-old recently competed in the Top Model Canada pageant, and was named Miss Intercontinental Canada. We're told this is the first time a northerner has taken a national pageant title.
In October, she'll take a two-week break from her first-year sociology studies at Queen's University, and travel to Colombo, Sri Lanka to take part in the Miss Intercontinental pageant.
“I'll be competing against women all across the world, representing their countries,” Kvaltin said. “I've never been overseas, so it's kind of intimidating. But I'm excited.”
She said she's already got in touch with Miss Intercontinental England and Miss Intercontinental USA so she'll know somebody at the pageant.
“They definitely told me they're going to keep me under their wing because I'm the young'un in terms of international pageants,” Kvaltin said.
“I'm kind of intimidated, but I know I'm at the peak of my capabilities. I know all of the portions I need to excel in. I think that I hopefully will be able to represent Canada with the pride it deserves.”
Kvaltin said pageants focus more on inner beauty and intelligence than they do on looking good in a dress or a bathing suit.
She said competing in pageants have given her self-confidence and poise that will help her in the future.
“It really helps you grow as a person,” Kvaltin said.
The young woman said she plans on entering law school when she completes her undergraduate studies, and hopes to eventually put her expertise to work in the entertainment industry.
