There were no injuries after Greater Sudbury Fire Services put out a small electrical fire in the basement of Knox Presbyterian Church on Larch Street, in downtown Sudbury Friday morning.

The fire caused an estimated $10,000 in damages, and fire damage was minor, though there was a moderate level of smoke damage.

Janice Lashuk, a member of the church's congregation, said she noticed smoke in the basement when she entered the building at around 7:55 a.m.
Lashuk said she went outside and called 911.

She said the fire was small enough that firefighters did not need to use hoses to extinguish it.

“Everything is under control,” she said around 9 a.m. Friday morning. “They just have to find out exactly what happened.”

The church was built in 1927.
