The cause of a house fire late yesterday afternoon in New Sudbury may be a snowmachine being store inside a trailer next to a Benita Boulevard duplex.
Firefighters were called to the New Sudbury home at around 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 21. Twenty-one firefighters from four fire stations and six fire vehicles were needed to quell the blaze.
Greater Sudbury Fire Services said it appears it was the snowmachine that initially caught fire, then spread to the two-storey home.
"Fire started from a snowmachine inside a trailer and quickly spread to the owner's house, which was a duplex," GSFS said in a news release.
Damage is estimated to be about $180,000 to the home. The adjacent duplex also suffered smoke and water damage. Althought both families are displaced by the fire (six people in total), no one was injured.
