After having operated for many years at the Southridge Mall, the John Hazen Memorial Fish Pond is moving to a new location.

The fish pond will operate at the Lockerby Legion from March 7-16. It operates 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day, with the exception of March 16, when the fish pond wraps up at 12 p.m.

“Bring the kids and create lifelong memories for the little ones,” said a press release. “Come to relive your own memories and show them how it is done.”

The pond, which is stocked with rainbow trout, is the Sudbury Game and Fish Protective Association’s main fundraiser.

Sudbury Game and Fish Protective Association promotes catch and release. However, that’s not to say that you can’t take a trout home for dinner.

“There will be over 750 hungry fish placed in the 21-foot pool, so come on out and try to get the difficult ‘big one’ out of the pool,” said the press release.

Catch a tagged fish for a chance to win $100.

After the March Break, the pond is taken down, and the remaining fish are removed and brought to a local lake approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources. The tanks with aerators are available to local community organizations where there is a need to transport live fish.

The proceeds from this event are used to maintain club property and for various conservation projects in the community.

Sudbury Game and Fish Protective Association said it is looking for high school students who want to get some volunteer hours. Call Charles at 249-360-6202 if interested.
