Steelheads slam the Sudbury Wolves 8-2 in Ontario Hockey League action Friday night

Friday night action at Sudbury Arena was not a night to remember

New Year's Eve was a tough night for the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League who came out on the low side of an 8 to 2 game with the visiting Mississauga Steelheads that was played at the Sudbury Arena. 

The Steelheads came on strong with centreman Owen Beck scoring just one minute and 10 seconds into the first period. At the 10:30 mark, Mississauga did it again as centre Luca DelBelBelluz scored the second goal of the night. The third goal for was scored about seven minutes later by centre Aiden Preuter on a power play.

Sudbury was able to get one the scoreboard in the final minute of the period as defenceman Liam Ross scored with assists from David Goyette and Kocha Delic.  

The Steelheads came back in the second period with strong action from forward Luke Misa with an effective wrist shot. Wolves D-man Andre Anania then came on strong for Sudbury a few minutes after that with his first ever OHL goal with assists from Ryan Smith and Landon McCallum. The score was 4 to 2 going into the third period.

Sudbury tried hard in the final period. There was one breakaway by Delic who skated past the Steelheads defence, but goalie Joe Ranger closed the gate.  After that it was all Mississauga with goals from Ty Collins, James Hardie, Evan Brand and then Kai Schwindt. Final tally 8 to 2.

The three stars of the game were Ethan Del Mastro with four assists, Ty Collins (1G, 1A) and Aidan Prueter (1G, 2A).

Sudbury is back in action on Sunday January 2, hosting the Soo Greyhounds at 2:05 p.m. and on Tuesday January 4, again hosting the Greyhounds at 7:05 p.m.  Due to new capacity restrictions, tickets are sold out for the Sunday game and a limited number of tickets are available for the Tuesday game.
