The Nickel Belt NDP have chosen their candidate for the Oct. 21 federal election: musician and actor Stef Paquette got the nod during the riding's nomination meeting on June 27.

The riding association hasn't put out an official release as of yet, but Paquette (in a typically Stef Paquette kind of way) announced his nomination on his Facebook page. You can see that post below.

"My name will be on the ballot at the next federal elections on October 21st.," he said. "The NDP members chose me as the candidate for the Nickel Belt riding!"

As you can see from the hashtag he included, Paquette may have been the only candidate. Sudbury.com is trying to confirm that.

Born in Chelmsford, Paquette is a renowned Franco-Ontarian artist, making a name for himself in a variety of artistic fields including music, theatre, television and radio.

Over his career, Paquette has received numerous awards and prizes recognizing his artistic work, including four awards from the Festival international de la chanson de Granby and a number of Trille Or (Golden Trillium Awards) presented by the Association des professionnels de la chanson et de la musique in Ontario.

Paquette also had the honour of representing Canada at the Music without Borders Festival in Egypt, and also performed in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Beirut, Lebanon.

The public has also had the opportunity to appreciate his acting work in the series "Les Bleus de Ramville" on TFO.

He was also a principal cast member of the medical drama "Hard Rock Medical" that ran for four seasons on TVO, and which is loosely based on the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. Paquette played the character Charlie Rivière on the show.
