Despite some threatening weather on Aug. 20, the 20th annual Strokes for Hope Golf Classic took place at Timberwolf Golf Club and was once again a great success.

One of the Northern Cancer Foundation’s signature events, the Strokes for Hope Golf Classic is an opportunity to mingle with colleagues and business acquaintances and play scramble-format golf while supporting vital patient care, treatment programs and leading-edge cancer research at the Northeast Cancer Centre.

This year, the event raised $71,400 making it one of the most successful years ever and helped the total amount raised over the last 20 years eclipse $1 million.

“It’s really unbelievable, at the start of the day we weren’t even sure if golf was an option, but at the end of the day, with $71,400 raised and over $1,000,000 since this event started 20 years ago. It’s been an incredible few hours,” said Tannys Laughren, executive director of the Northern Cancer Foundation.

“The organizing committee worked so hard to make this event a success, they should be proud of this fantastic event.”

The tournament portion of the day was once again won by the team representing the Knights of Columbus with the low score of -10 (62).

The NCF would like to pass on their sincere gratitude to all of the sponsors, organizers and participants of Strokes for Hope for another amazing year.
