In a release, the group said it was concerned by what it sees as the potential negative impact of the Energy East Pipeline in Northern Ontario and other energy projects in Canada, including as the use of fracking for oil extraction in New Brunswick and the continued exploitation of the Alberta oilsands.

"The key messages of the Sudbury Defend Our Climate Event are that the climate crisis: is a non-partisan issue; it is human caused; we are all vulnerable; there is hope and it will be inexpensive to solve the problem if we start now," Citizens Climate Lobby Sudbury said in the release.

The group has been lobbying for Canada to take a stronger stance on climate change that not only benefits the environment and lowers greenhouse gas emissions, but does so in a way that benefits the economy and the taxpayer.
