Sudbury Burlesque is bringing a new show to The Grand Nightclub this weekend after two years of waiting.
“Building this show from the ground up has been an extremely rewarding experience for our team,” said Jessica Crowe, artistic director of Sudbury Burlesque Productions in a press release. “Over the past few years, we have grown and evolved and we are more than ready to take on the big stage once again.”
The local burlesque group held smaller Halloween-themed shows at The Coulson Nightclub last year and after seeing the success of that, they’re back for another performance. This time there’s less horror and more Y2K.
“Y2K Burlesque will take its audience on a trip back to New Year's Eve 1999 as a generation prepares to take on the new millennium and everything it will bring: the good, the bad, and the sexy,” the press release wrote.
The show will have iconic references from the Mean Girls to boy bands. The past couple years have already seen the fashion trends from the 2000s come back, and the burlesque is no exception from the Y2K takeover. From rhinestones to colourful cardigans, frosted lip gloss, rugby shirts and butterfly clips.
The performance isn’t the only thing to look forward to. Audience members can also shop at local pop-up vendors, check out era-inspired art installations, and take photos at a photo booth. A Y2K-themed costume contest will also present some prizes to winners from local businesses.

The shows start at 8:30 p.m. but the doors will open at 7:15 p.m. Tickets are available here.
