Sudbury composer wins second in international composition contest

Sudbury composer Robert Lemay has won second prize at the International Composition Prize Luxembourg 2007, a prestigious international composition contest organized by the Luxembourg Society for Contemporary Music.

Sudbury composer Robert Lemay has won second prize at the International Composition Prize Luxembourg 2007, a prestigious international composition contest organized by the Luxembourg Society for Contemporary Music.

Last August, the jury selected Lemay’s piece, Mare Tranquilitatis, as one of the four finalists chosen from 152 entries from 38 countries, including 10 from Canada. 

The final stage of the competition took place at the Centre des Arts Pluriels in Luxembourg Oct. 27.

The second prize is worth $2,700.  Lemay was invited to assist with the rehearsals for the public performance by the Luxembourg Sinfonietta. The concert was broadcasted by the European Broadcasting Union, one of the largest associations of national broadcasters in the world. The prize-winning works will be released on CD by Luxembourg Sinfonietta next year.
