Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers announces Phase 1 of Illegal Dumping campaign
Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers (SRCS) announced the launch of Phase 1 of their new Illegal Dumping Campaign, the result of a working group consisting of environmental stakeholders and community partners. While illegal dumping is not a new issue, SRCS said in a release that it is an emergent topic in the community.

The focus of the effort is to mitigate the effects illegal dumping has on citizens, wildlife, and the environment. Ensuring that the crime of illegal dumping ends will help ensure the sustainability of our environment so that it can be enjoyed, not only by current residents, but by future generations of Sudburians, stated the release.

The Illegal Dumping Campaign will consist of three phases. Phase 1, now launched, will include  survey research to determine the scope of the problem in this region and to identify illegal dumping hotspots. Phase 2 will be education focused as signs will be added to the city advising citizens that illegal dumping is a crime as well as how to report it. During Phase 3, volunteers will mobilize to assist local environmental groups to clean up waste on land as well as in lakes and waterways.

SRCS encourages all citizens to help stop illegal dumping in the community by clicking this link to complete the Illegal Dumping Survey. The resulting report will bring awareness to the problem and the survey results will be used to determine where signs will be erected during Phase 2.
