Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival has raised $100K for hospice expansion

Festival has raised more than $1.7M for local capital campaigns in its 19 years of operation

The Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival announced recently that over the past two years, paddlers have raised over $100,000 for the Sudbury Hospice Foundation’s Stand by Me capital campaign in support of Maison McCulloch Hospice.

The property at Maison McCulloch Hospice is currently being cleared to accommodate the expansion. Construction for the addition officially begins this fall. adding 16,000 square feet to the hospice. 

The expansion will provide the community 10 more beds; including one pediatric transition room and four respite beds. 

“Our paddlers made an impact on this community by gathering pledges to support our chosen charity,” said Chris Gavard, the dragon boat festival's chair of sponsorship and promotion, in a press release. 

“Each charity we’ve supported have been successful in completing their capital projects and we thank our paddlers for contributing to that success.”

Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival, which was held this year on July 14, has helped nine local organizations with their capital campaigns throughout its 19 years in operation, raising over $1.7 million that stayed in our community.
