Sudbury's first pedestrian crossover will be located at Barrydowne Road at Woodbine Avenue and will come into use on Nov. 15 at 10:30 a.m.

On Jan. 1 of this year, a new law was implemented with the intention of making roads safer for pedestrians, school children, and crossing guards.

The law states drivers (including cyclists) must come to a full stop and yield the whole roadway at pedestrian crossovers and school crossings where there is a crossing guard displaying a stop signs.

Pedestrian crossovers provide safe passage for pedestrians across roads that do not have conventional traffic signals or stop signs nearby.

The city plans to install 17 of these crossovers across Greater Sudbury this fall.

More information about pedestrian crossovers in Sudbury, including locations, is available on the City of Greater Sudbury website.
