Sudbury man Jack Tikkanen has won a jackpot of $549,045 in August’s Health Sciences North 50/50 Cash Lottery.
“I only just heard about the HSN 50/50 draw this past month, so I made sure to buy some tickets,” Tikkanen said. “Seeing what the Foundations at HSN do was great motivation to try my luck. I never expected to be the winner – I was just happy to support!”
Tikkanen said he’s likely to put some of the winnings away and support some family and friends, but that he’s also thinking about visiting family in Finland and Sweden, and is excited by the prospect of seeing them soon.
Although the jackpot prize was a boon for Tikkanen, the fundraiser lottery also benefits Greater Sudbury’s health centre, said Anthony Keating, president and chief development officer for the HSN’s foundations, HSN Volunteer Association and Volunteer services.
“It means that we can continue to support more priority equipment needs at HSN in the near future,” said Keating. “Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets this summer for making a difference in our community.”
The Health Sciences North website notes the lottery directly supports the highest-priority needs of the health centre through the work of the Health Sciences North Foundation, NEO Kids Foundation, Northern Cancer Foundation and Health Sciences North Volunteer Association.
This, in turn, helps make a difference in the lives of those living with cancer, tiny patients receiving specialized pediatric care and helps ensure equipment is in place when needed to provide quality patient care.
