Sudbury Regional Hospital (SRH) received a $5,142,900 investment announced today by Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci that will lead to new beds, more surgeries and lower wait times for residents in Greater Sudbury.

“While there is always work to do, our government remains unwavering in our commitment to ensuring excellent health care in Sudbury and all Ontario communities,” said Bartolucci in a news release.

This cash flow is part of a $667.2 million provincial increase or 4.9 per cent, over last year.

Provincially, $30 million dollars in funding will be provided to increase access to hospitals in Ontario’s fastest growing communities. The distribution of this funding will be determined by Ontario’s 14 Local Health Integration Networks.

“The North East Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) has worked very closely with the 25 hospitals in the North East to plan the delivery of hospital services,” said Mathilde Gravelle Bazinet, board chair of North East Local Health Integration Network. “We are confident the hospital system is well placed to provide effective and timely health care.”

An additional $170 million will be allocated to hospitals later in 2008-2009, making the overall increase 6.1 per cent for this fiscal year.
