Sudburians have been lacing up for the Sudbury Rocks!!! Race, Run and Walk for Diabetes for 12 years.

The largest running event in Northern Ontario will begin downtown this year on May 14 at Tom Davies Square.

The event features a free 1-km children's fun run, a 5-km celebrity challenge, which our editor Mark Gentili will be participating in - be sure to cheer him on (He'll need it!).

If you're more physically inclined than our editor, there are 10-km events, a half marathon, full marathon and marathon relay.

Proceeds and pledges from the event support Diabetes Canada in its mission to end diabetes. Over the past 12 years, Sudbury Rocks has raised more than $500,000 for Diabetes Canada.

To register to take part in the event or to volunteer, visit SudburyRocksMarathon.com.
