NORCAT, Sudbury's well known training and development organization, has formed a partnership with the University College of the North (UCN) in Manitoba.

The partnership is aimed at fortifying the development of mining exploration and projects in Manitoba, said a NORCAT news release.

With 29 out of the 31 minerals listed on Canada's 2021 Critical Minerals List located in Manitoba, the province stands at the forefront of critical and strategic minerals, said the release.

Six of these minerals are identified by the Canadian government as pivotal for economic growth, presenting a unique opportunity for Manitoba to stimulate economic development and strengthen domestic capacity for priority supply chains, said NORCAT.

UCN president and vice-chancellor Doug Lauvstad was pleased with the partnership and said it would contribute to the prosperity of the region.

"Cultivating opportunities in northern Manitoba is at the heart of this partnership with NORCAT," said Lauvstad.

"This collaboration serves as a catalyst, paving the way for a wealth of opportunities in both the education and mining sectors while contributing to the prosperity of both individuals and communities across northern Manitoba," he added.

Jason Bubba, NORCAT's chief operating officer, remarked that education fosters new opportunities.

"This partnership reflects our shared vision with the University College of the North, empowering Manitoba through accessible education, sustainable growth, and creating opportunities for a prosperous future in the mining sector," said Bubba..
