The Sudbury Women's Centre (SWC) Strength in Sisterhood Gala, celebrated on International Women's Day (March 8) raised almost $50,000 for the centre. The funds will help the SWC with future programming, and allow them to continue to provide clients with free basic needs items, resources, services, and education.
Celebrating with the community, in-person for the first time since 2020, SWC credits what they refer to in a release as “incredible corporate and community support.” They extend a thank you for help raising the $49, 929 to sponsors (see the bottom of the article.)
"We were overwhelmed with the support from our community. The event was a tremendous success, and we can’t wait to do it again next year,” said SWC Executive Director Giulia Carpenter. “We had rave reviews from everyone who attended, and we raised critical funds that will assist in continuing to grow our centre for those in the community who need it most. On behalf of the Centre, I would like to thank everyone who attended the gala, and everyone who continues to support what we do. We are a place to start for women, girls, trans, and non-binary people, and because of you, members of our community will have a place to come to begin their journey towards a better life - whatever that may look like for them.”
SWC looks forward to its next International Women’s Day event, and is already in the planning stages for 2024.
