Sun shines down on Earth Day Festival at Memorial Park

Kids and their parents get their fill of environmentally friendly activities

Saturday set the perfect scene for the 12th annual Earth Day Festival at Memorial Park.

Children and their parents packed the park for some family fun and entertainment that included a variety of vendors, children's activities like face painting, food and music.

Earth Day was celebrated April 22.

“Hosting the (festival) in June has opened up numerous opportunities for development and collaboration,” said Leigha Benford, events co-ordinator for reThink Green, which organized the event. “Of course, we still celebrate Earth Day in April, but now the Greater Sudbury Earth Day Festival can grow into one of Sudbury’s favourite outdoor, early summer events.”

This year's festival was held at the same time as the UN World Environment Day, which is being hosted by Canada this year.
