Apparently, Eastlink TV's Robert “Super Pie-Man” Savignac knows how to get to the bottom of a good blueberry pie — and fast.
Savignac was crowned the winner of the 20th annual Celebrity Blueberry Pie Eating Contest on Thursday, outpacing Northern Life reporter Jonathan “The Human Smurf” Migneault, as well as the other media representatives putting their stomachs to the test in the contest.
With a blazing speed of 1:56, which is two minutes faster than last year’s champion, Savignac took home the Blueberry Crown.
Ian “Bluebeard” Cameron, of 95.5 KFM, was close behind in second place with a time of 2:25.
There was a tie for third place between last year’s bronze medallist from 91.7 KICX FM Alison “Getting Her Blueberry Fix For Kicx” Allen and two-time silver-medallist from CTV Isaac “The Pie Eating Freak” Cohen.
All others fought valiantly against their pies including Ryan “The Blueberry Master” Byrne (Sudbury Star), Nick “Blue Thunder” Liard (105.3 KISS FM), Sarah “Boom Berry” Boucher (Rewind 103.9), Devin “Da Pie in This Guy” McNeil (Hot 93.5), Marigil “Autobot” Talbot (Le Loup 98.9) and Morgan “Sweetie Pie” Bottrell (Q92).
“This competition had some of the fastest times that had ever been held by Downtown Sudbury with four people beating the time set last year by over a minute,” said Downtown Sudbury in a news release. “It was really exciting to see all the people out and cheering on their contestant.”
John Kennedy acted as emcee. The pies were provided by Matt and Caitlin from Forken Spoon. The blueberries came from Freskiw Farms.
