Talk about heat: Are you ready for the best summer weekend of the fall?

Summer is officially over today, but apparently Mother Nature didn't get the memo.

Instead of the fall weather we would normally be having at this time of year, the region is being treated not just to an extended summer, but to July temperatures late in September.

Normally, the daytime high this time of year is in the high teens to low 20s, but over night the mercury falls below 10C.

This month, that's flipped on its head.

Saturday will start with some fog in the morning, but the daytime high should hit a sweltering 28C, with the humidex making it feel like a sticky 35. Overnight though, temperatures are expected to remain high, not falling below about 17.

The high overnight temperature means Sunday is going to dawn warm and only get warmer from there. Sunday's high is expected to be 29C.

That heat is expected to continue into the week with daytime highs in the mid to high 20s for the first half of the week. Come Thursday, temperatures should start coming down.

Thursday's high is a pleasant 14.
