'That's not cool, folks': Someone stole trees in Copper Cliff

Copper Cliff CAN has been planting trees to beautify the community

Members of the Copper Cliff Community Action Network (CAN) have been busy planting trees at the Balsam Street entrance to Copper Cliff this month in an attempt to beautify the community.

Unfortunately, on Sunday or Monday of this week, someone stole two freshly planted white pine trees from the ground.

Copper Cliff CAN member Norm Eady, who planted some of the trees, figures someone took the trees to transplant for their own purposes.

He said the trees were brought up from seedlings by fellow Copper Cliff CAN member Joanne Renzoni. “So she has a personal loss,” he said.

The group hasn't contacted police over the theft, but will consider doing so if trees start to be vandalized.

“Maybe it was a one-off kind of thing,” Eady said.

The Copper Cliff CAN's Facebook page had the following to say about the theft:

“Remember these awesome fellas, planting trees and making the Balsam Street entrance beautiful? Well, someone STOLE FRESHLY PLANTED TREES from this area!!! That's not cool, folks. Be a good neighbour and don't steal trees.”

If you have an idea who might have taken the trees, you can report the theft through Sudbury Rainbow Crime Stoppers at 705-222-8477.
