Sudbury's own The Mondo Idols reunited for a one-off performance on June 27 at Stack Brewing's second anniversary party.
The five-man ensemble comprised of Matt Foy (guitar and vocals), Brian McNally (bass), Don Kunto (guitar and vocals), Chris Dardick (drums and vocals), and recent NDP nomination winner Paul Loewenberg (keyboard and vocals) played to an enthusiastic crowd at the brewery's parking lot party.
The group had not played a show in more than five years as The Mondo Idols, though they had all been pursuing different avenues musically.
“We all play in different incarnations of the group but it's been a long time since we all played together like this, as the Mondo Idols,” said Foy.
Since the Idols split, Foy has personally recorded eight records of his own and appeared on nearly 20 others.
“There's no ill will or anything between the members of (The Mondo Idols), it just kind of ran its course I guess,” said Foy.
The group made their name in and around Sudbury, playing local establishments like The Towne House, where Loewenberg is the Operations Manager.
“It was really Rob (Majury) who convinced us to come out and do this show today,” said Foy.
“Rob (promotions with Stack Brewing), used to come and see us all the time at the Towne House and once he asked none of us were going to say no.”
For those who weren't able to catch The Mondo Idols on Saturday, have no fear as they've already been slotted to play a second show at UpFest in August.
Whether or not this means the group will be reuniting for good is up in the air at this point though.
“We'll just see how things go I guess,” said Foy.
