The Motley Kitchen, which offers certified kitchen space available for rental to small-scale businesses, is what's known as an incubator kitchen.

So far, Lefebvre, McTaggart and Caruso — the co-owners of the restaurant — are the only people operating out of the venue, but say they've had lots of interest from other potential tenants.

Bakers, caterers and other business owners that need access to a kitchen will be able to use equipment they wouldn't otherwise be able to afford, including full-size pizza ovens and a 60-quart mixer.

“If you've got a food-related idea that you want to get off the ground, and you think we might be able to work with you, please come and talk to us,” Caruso said.

The venue is also available for rental for special events, with catering provided by McTaggart.

The Motley Kitchen was able to get off the ground thanks in part to a Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign that brought in nearly $24,000.

The money helped to fund renovations to the restaurant, as well as items such as a point-of-sale system and furniture.

“We saw incredible contributions,” Caruso said, adding that he's very grateful. “We saw donations from friends and family, people near and far, people who hardly knew us and people who didn't know us at all.”

The Motley Kitchen is open 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays. For more information, search for The Motley Kitchen on Facebook, phone 705-222-6685 or email info@themotleykitchen.com.
