Residents of Ward 3, which includes Chelmsford, Onaping Falls and Azilda, will now have access to a bus for transportation to and from swimming sessions/aqua fitness.
Residents of Ward 3, which includes Chelmsford, Onaping Falls and Azilda, will now have access to a bus for transportation to and from swimming sessions/aqua fitness.

Councillors Claude Berthiaume and Evelyn Dutrisac, in conjunction with the City of Greater Sudbury, are making the service available to those who utilize the pool at the Howard Armstrong Recreation Centre in Hanmer.

The cost is $3 per person per day.

The bus service begins Jan. 9 and will be offered up until the end of March. It will be available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

This marks the fourth or fifth year the councillors have teamed up for this initiative, Berthiaume said.

“People complain there is no pool in Rayside Balfour, so we got together to at least offer transportation to the Howard Armstrong pool,” Berthiaume said.

“It's especially convenient for seniors, who might be concerned about the weather and icy roads.”

A portion of the service is funded through each councillor's Healthy Community Initiatives Fund.

The schedule is as follows:

- 8:05 a.m. pickup at Club d'accueil, 64 Notre Dame St., Azilda.
- 8:15 a.m. pickup at Place Bonaventure Mall (main entrance), 4764 Regional Rd. 15, Chelmsford.
- 8:20 a.m. pickup at St. Gabriel Villa, 4690 Municipal Rd. 15, Chelmsford.

Residents will be dropped off at the same locations following the swim.

Ward 3 residents who wish to reserve a spot on the bus are asked to call Norm at 705-855-9116.

Azilda residents who wish to reserve a spot on the bus are to call Tina at 705-983-2063.
