Vale is celebrating. Sudbury's largest mining and refining company is holding a community open house later this month to showcase what the company has been doing in terms of expanding and enhancing local operations.

In a recent social media posting, Vale wrote: "As an integral part of the Sudbury community, we look forward to sharing some exciting initiatives and providing insights on what we are doing to ensure Sudbury has a long and bright future for generations to come!"

The open house event is expected to be busy. Vale said it has sent out invitations.

"Yes, Grade 7 and 8 students from Copper Cliff Public School have been invited. We have also extended invitations to surrounding Indigenous communities, our corporate partners, and members of the Sudbury community," said communications spokesperson Rachel Meehan, in an email.

Meehan added the event will include a tour of the company's much-talked-about Integrated Remote Operations Centre (iRoC), an innovative a state-of-the-art facility located at the company’s North Atlantic Operations Centre. There will also be a tour of Vale's Copper Cliff greenhouse.

"We will be also showcasing some of our current capital projects and environmental initiatives," Meehan wrote.

Also, don't expect speeches, but there will be Vale representatives available to discuss their respective areas one on one with visitors, said Meehan.

The event is set to take place on Tuesday, June 20 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the recently renovated North Atlantic Operations Centre at 337 Power St. in Copper Cliff. Some locals will remember it as the former Vale engineering building.

"A few years ago we completely renovated it, and it is now our new North Atlantic Operations Centre. We thought the public might enjoy seeing our new way of working in an open-concept collaborative space," said Meehan.
