Valley brothers up for same CCMA

What could pit two Valley brothers against each other in a high noon musical shootout? A Canadian Country Music Award.

What could pit two Valley brothers against each other in a high noon musical shootout?

A Canadian Country Music Award.

Val Caron natives Gil Grand and Jake Mathews have both been nominated for the independent artist of the year award at the 2004 Canadian Country Music Awards (CCMAs).

Grand won Independent Male Artist of the Year in 2003. This year, he's nominated in the Best Video category for Run and Independent Song for Everybody Rides.

Mathews was nominated for the Rising Stars award three years in a row.

That moniker is based on his nephew's name. Mathews was motivated to make the modification after Gil made his stage name a shortened version of his real last name, Lagrandeur.

Both brothers are touring like crazy supporting recent releases. Mathews will be releasing a new single from Time After Time, his latest album.

Grand is gearing up to record his next album in December.

The awards show airs Sept. 18 at 8pm on CBC from the Rexall Centre in Edmonton.
