Public Health Sudbury & Districts has ordered Valley View Public School to close until further notice due to “widespread transmission of COVID-19 in the school.”

The Rainbow District School Board's website said there are eight students at the school with confirmed cases of COVID-19.

All transportation to and from Valley View Public School is cancelled, said a press release issued by Rainbow District School Board Wednesday.

All students from Valley View Public School will transition to remote learning from home.

School staff will follow up with families to determine who requires technology.

Continuity of learning will be provided as seamlessly as possible, the board said.

“Public Health has today determined that there is widespread transmission of COVID-19 in the school and the school is closed to prevent further spread of COVID-19,” states the direction letter from Public Health.

The letter is posted on the COVID-19 advisory section on the Rainbow board's website.

“On behalf of the board and the school, I would like to thank staff, students, parents and guardians for their ongoing patience and understanding,” said Director of Education Bruce Bourget, in the press release.

“Health and safety, as always, remains the first and foremost priority.”

There are 52 active cases of COVID-19 in area JK-12 schools. Public Health Sudbury & Districts reports three active COVID-19 outbreaks in area JK-12 schools, including at Valley View Public School.
