Video: Jeunesse-Nord students write a song with Chuck Labelle

With support from Chuck Labelle and others, the students were able to write, compose, and create a video for their song ‘Ilusion’

Students from the music program at École secondaire catholique Jeunesse-Nord (Blind River) celebrated the launch of the music video for their song “Illusion” on June 30. Made possible through the Ontario Arts Council’s Artists in Residence program, the project offered students the opportunity to work with artists including renowned Franco-Ontarian musician Chuck Labelle.

The class released the video on the Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon YouTube channel.

Under the guidance of their teacher, Michel Levac, the students were able to compose the song “Illusion.” Later, Chuck Labelle joined the group to share his knowledge in production and musical composition in order to support students and allow them to reach their creative potential.

In May, the students were able to spend two days in the studio under the direction of Chuck Labelle. They then worked with Léo Duquette of Media Concepts and took part in the video production for their song.

During this portion of the project, the students participated in the writing and conceptualization of the script for their music video, and took on the roles of extras in the filming and succeeded in mastering various elements of music and video production.

“I take great pride in leading such a wonderful project that helped channel our students’ artistic passion through a high-level production and by allowing them to develop their creative talents,” said Levac, teacher at ÉSC Jeunesse-Nord. “Supported by Franco-Ontarian experts, Jeunesse-Nord students had the opportunity to work as a team, live a valuable cultural experience as well as invest a great deal of passion in a video production.”
