Video: Occupant had no vital signs when found by firefighters

'Heavy smoke and flames' coming from the basement of Potvin Crescent home when GSFS arrived

Greater Sudbury Fire Services told Sudbury.com that it was a city worker who called emergency services this morning when he noticed smoke coming from a Potvin Crescent residence around 8:50 a.m.

"He proceeded to contact emergency services and then tried to bang on the door to see if there was anyone within the residence," Assistant Deputy Fire Chief Jesse Oshell said. "When fire services arrived on the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames in the basement area.

"There was one (person found inside) with vital signs absent."

Police say the man was the lone occupant of the home. An investigator from the Office of the Fire Marshall is attending the scene.

The coroner is investigating the man's cause of death.
